MELBOURNE FRINGE FESTIVAL 2021: DEATH ROW DOLLIES
Based on the book 'Death Row Dollies' by journalist Linda Polman, Death Row Dollies explores the lives of women who fall in love with death row inmates. Part physical theatre part radio play, this performance is a collage of verbatim accounts from real-life-dollies which challenge form to challenge psyche.
The Dollies are all well-educated, socially motivated women from Northern Europe. They start writing to death row inmates through Amnesty International. Gradually, their communications grow into experiences of love. As one prison warden says, 'these men could talk the underpants off the Virgin Mary.'

Samantha Jacobszoon is a writer, director and performer currently living in Naarm. She directs words on the page in the form of poetry, theatre, short story, and novel. She is currently interested in the capacity of verbatim theatre to allow the truth of words chosen by individuals in the midst of subjective experiences to speak louder and more clearly than those chosen through fictional representation.
'Tri' Liston is a sound designer, composer, classically trained musician and teacher based in Naarm. Their interests lie across a wide range of musical contexts, blending multiple influences to produce one cohesive form. Their creativity is fuelled in collaboration with artists of varying disciplines, creating works which define the intersection of these artistic visions.
Carol Keating studied drama at La Trobe University and is an actor and physical theatre performer. Carol’s interest in physical theatre began when she joined The Women’s Circus. Carol has had training in Clown, Bouffon and Butoh. Carol also has a special interest in Feldenkrais and the Alexander Technique.
Pauline Sherlock is a singer songwriter, stand-up comedian, actor, character performer, Clown and Butoh artist, she will turn her hand to anything really. Based in Melbourne since 2018, Pauline has engaged in rigorous training experiences with renowned teachers in a pursuit of expertise as a performer. Pauline brings an eclectic collection of skills and offers an unconventional entertainment experience.
