'We Are Women See Us Roar' is designed to focus on and celebrate the role of women in live music across a variety of genres highlighting the contribution women make to the music industry, an industry that has been historically male dominated. Anna bandAnna also brings a focus to her work as a female music photographer. The exhibition features a diversity of women from across different music styles.
Anna bandAnna moved to Melbourne from regional Victoria in her late teenage years to attend Uni. Quickly discovering live music and becoming an avid listener of RRR, PBS and JJJ. Throughout a career in health sciences she regularly attended gigs and festivals. Discovering a love for photography while travelling in the mid 2000s. After returning to Australia she started taking her camera to gigs.
Anna developed an appreciation for the visual aspect of live music and learned a lot about photography along the way. She notes ‘It is interesting that people say I am going to “see” a gig as I think the visual aspect of live music is an important part of the gig going experience.’
Shooting for Beat Magazine she has also been published in The Age, The Music, Amplify, Semplesize and Planet Arts Melbourne. She has been an official photographer for The Melbourne International Jazz Festival for the past 5 years also photographing Falls Festival, Golden Plains, Port Fairy Folk Festival, Woodford Folk Festival, The National Folk Festival, Queenscliff Music Festival and UNIFY. Anna has photographed in a variety of venues from small bars such as Open Studio to big arenas such as Rod Laver Arena.
Anna will be joining us at POME on Saturday July 17th for an intimate artist Q&A.
